How do I know which icing to use on my cake?

When it comes to decorating cakes, there are numerous options to choose from. One popular choice is sugarpaste or fondant, which can be moulded into various shapes and designs to create a smooth and polished look. Chocolate ganache, a mixture of chocolate and cream, is a great option for covering extra tall cakes with a firm set and achieving those modern sharp edges on your cakes.

Here at Sweet Success, we make our own premium White and Ivory Sugarpaste which is flexible, bright white and tastes delicious! Our sugarpaste won't dry out giving you that unsightly 'elephant skin' appearance on your finished cake. For coloured sugarpaste we recommend Renshaw which have a wide range of coloured sugarpaste to really make your cake pop.

Buttercream, frosting or filling cream can be piped or spread onto cakes to create beautiful textures and designs especially when using cake scrapers or stencils for a finished look.

Candy Melts are perfect for creating classics drips on your cakes or for using with chocolate mould when creating cakesicles and cake pops that require a hard, chocolate style set.

Royal icing, on the other hand, is commonly used with fruit cakes and can be applied over a layer of marzipan for a traditional and elegant finish.
