A substitute for Gum Tragacanth, CMC powder can be added to sugarpaste to create a firm setting modelling paste. You can also add CMC to royal icing along with vegetable fat to create a hard setting flower paste.
CMC is available under 2 different brand names - Sugarcel and Tylo Powder. Both products are CMC - we offer both to give a choice of pack sizes.
Knead 1 teaspoon of CMC into 225g (8 oz) of sugarpaste to make modelling paste. CMC needs time to work before the paste is used - you should begin to feel a difference in the paste after an hour or so, but it is best left overnight. Keep your modelling paste well wrapped - it needs to be completely airtight to prevent drying out.
We also sell Gum Tragacanth, which is a natural product, and much stronger than CMC, but it does take longer to activate and can work out more pricey than CMC.

Not sure when to order? Ideally, place your order a week before you need to use the goods - even though most 'Express' orders arrive within just 1 or 2 working days, allow extra time if you can! Our cakes have a five week shelf life and won't suffer if they arrive a few days before you plan to start decorating. If you have a particular day you'd prefer delivery, use the 'comment' box at checkout to let us know, but bear in mind we can't 100% guarantee delivery on a specific day
